Constitution and geographic location
C.I. DE AZUCARES Y MIELES S.A. was established in May 1961 by members of the Colombian Sugar Industry, based on the needs and interests of the sector. Its corporate name was Colombiana de Mieles S.A.
In the same year, the company acquired a plot of 32.000 m2 in Palmira, and four (4) tanks of molasses, three (3) in Buenaventura and one (1) in Palmira.
In 1971 there was approved the acquisition of the lot to the head office in the city of Cali. In the same year they made investments for more than US$135.000 in Buenaventura to export bulk sugar.
Today we have rented three warehouses and an office area for more than 36.000 m2 in the Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura (Regional Port Society of Buenaventura).
We have a warehouse in Buga that was acquired in 2005 and it has 8.659 m2, and the warehouse we have in Palmira has 47,000 m2.

The first export of bulk sugar was in January 24, 1972 by 10.321 metric tons.
In 1981 the company received its registration in the International Trading Register, and therefore, its name was changed to Sociedad Comercializadora Internacional de Azúcares y Mieles S.A.
In 1986 we began the export of sugar sacks. The first export in this mode was by 8.600 mt.
In the last 5 years, the sugar export volumes have ranged from 480.000 to over 1.000.000 metric tons annually.
Some of the destinations of our exports are Canada, USA, Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica, Peru, Chile, Europe and the Middle East, among others.
CIAMSA is an important jobs generator in the region. In 2011 there were generated more than 260 direct jobs and over 1.000 indirect jobs. This number of jobs changes depending on the amount of sugar exported, but in the last 5 years, the lowest number of direct jobs created by CIAMSA is above 200 and higher can exceed 500 direct jobs.
